During COVID our Foundation received several proposals from non-profit organizations that had an educational focus but effectively amounted to daycare programs for school-age youth. COVID presented many challenges. One of the most pressing was daycare as schools and daycare centers closed their doors. We appreciate that non-profits tried their best to step up and address the daycare crisis during COVID. I think we were all worried about how COVID would ultimately affect kids' education.
Thankfully, COVID is largely over and things are back to normal for the most part. Unfortunately, our Foundation is still receiving proposals from non-profits that purport to be about helping public schools when in fact there is little in the way of educational rigor. Again, we appreciate that non-profits wish to help public schools. However, we feel that certain guidelines should be in place and maintained. If you have a project designed to help public schools during regular classroom hours, here are our guidelines that will govern how these projects will be designed and administered.
Our public schools need as much help as they can get. However, that help should be appropriate and uphold academic rigor. If your proposal includes instruction and exercises that will substitute for instruction and exercises normally delivered during classroom time, then your instruction and exercises should be of the highest caliber and delivered by appropriate teachers and instructors. If you have any questions concerning these guidelines, feel free to contact us at [email protected]. Thanks and we look forward to considering your proposal for a public school/non-profit partnership that follows the above guidelines.

- You must request and receive permission to collaborate with any public school not only from the school in question, but also from the district that holds that school. Permission letters must be submitted with your proposal to our Foundation.
- All projects will have a written curriculum. That curriculum will specifically state how the helping curriculum will dovetail and support the host curriculum. As an example, if your proposal states that it will help students at a particular grade level with math and science, then the curriculum should outline instruction and exercises that teach math and science appropriate for that grade level. Helping curriculums should be approved by those teachers participating in the project. The curriculum should state how many hours of instruction will substitute for classroom time at the host school. A copy of the approved curriculum must be submitted with your proposal to our Foundation.
- All instruction and exercises will be conducted by teachers or instructors who have the proper qualifications to engage in such instruction. The names, qualifications, and degrees held by teachers or instructors should be provided as a part of the proposal submitted to our Foundation.
- All instruction and exercises shall be delivered to public schools free of charge to either the classroom as a whole or to individual students.
